Dev Update: Weight, New Zones, Combat Fixes and More!

It’s been a busy few months since my last post.

I’ve finished quite a few major changes to the game’s combat. Mostly quality-of-life stuff that will make combat feel smoother and hopefully steer more people into what I’m trying to build.

Blue abilities, I like to call them, are the abilities that you set to blue on your controlled character’s action bar. Those then pool on the left side, and they may look like buffs, but it is an action bar that can be accessed at any time, regardless of who you are controlling. Left mouse requires a target, while right mouse pulls up a target-and-shoot type feature, turning your mouse icon into the blue indicator shown below.

This new feature makes controlling and swapping targets a breeze. Next on my to-do list is making blue abilities that you already have a target for cast via left mouse click and queue while paused. Right now, they kind of just do nothing until you unpause and press the button.

Weight Added

I’ve added weight to the game, including a snaring-like feature when you are carrying too much. I really like this feature in classic games I’ve grown up playing. I put it off for a while and finally caved into adding it. I’m very happy about the outcome, and I strongly think it will bring a clever way to solve packing your inventory with trash, keep gold under control, and also bring light items into the loot table.

Since my last post, I’ve added several new zones. Misfens Marshes, a path along a wetlands area filled with sentient frogs and goblin hordes, leads to Eren’s End, the elven city in the trees. This zone also includes an upper area where the elven king resides. As you venture further, you can enter the Sacred Lands, a closed-off area for most, but gain access and you’ll find what you’re looking for in your main quest line. The Sacred lands is a maze like place where you’ll encounter enemies and blocked pathways.

I’m going to be working on Slafaria next, the scorching deserts, and that contains a handful of zones to complete for the full game. Several of those zones are done, they just need enemies, items, and the fun stuff added.
